Among the 23,785 people murdered in the U.S. during 2022, roughly 80% or 19,028 were murdered with firearms. Contrary to claims that gun control will reduce murders, there is no clear association between gun ownership rates and murder rates, and studies consistently show that incidents of defensive gun use equal and outnumber criminal uses of guns.
