Based on more than 480 interviews and 6 million pages of documents, special prosecutor John Durham found that “neither U.S. law enforcement nor the Intelligence Community appears to have possessed any actual evidence of collusion in their holdings at the commencement of the Crossfire Hurricane investigation.” Instead, the FBI significantly relied “on investigative leads provided or funded (directly or indirectly) by Trump’s political opponents,” especially “the unvetted and unverified” “Steele Dossier,” which was funded by the Clinton campaign and parroted by the media. Moreover, an internal FBI email described a key aspect of this case as a “top priority for Director Comey.” At the same time, “senior FBI and Department officials placed restrictions on how” matters related to Hillary Clinton “were to be handled such that essentially no investigative activities occurred for months leading up to the election.”
