At least 10 studies on youth who were given puberty blockers for gender fluidity purposes found that they significantly interfere with bone development. Bone mass and density normally grow considerably during puberty, and such drugs impede these processes. The long-term effects of this are not well-studied at this point, but typical consequences of poor bone development are chronic pain and fractures later in life. Some have claimed that such risks are justifiable because a widely cited 2019 paper in the American Journal of Psychiatry found that gender transitions reduced suicides, but the data showed nothing of the sort, and the authors were forced to issue a correction.
