Medicaid is the main government healthcare program for low-income people. In the U.S. during 2019, Medicaid was the source of payment for 42.1% of all childbirths. This varied from 29.4% for white mothers to 59.0% for Hispanic mothers, and 65.1% for black mothers. The CDC used to publish these data on an annual basis in a report titled “Births in the United States,” but the Biden administration removed the data from the report. During Biden’s tenure, the portion of the U.S. population on Medicaid grew by 30%.
