Tell Me More

The first-century Roman historian Cornelius Tacitus wrote about "Christ" and recorded particulars about when he lived, where he lived, that he was executed, and the name of the official who ordered his death (Pontius Pilate). The first-century Jewish historian Flavius Josephus also wrote that Jesus was "called Christ" (Latin for Messiah) and detailed how his brother James was killed by religious leaders. The Jewish-Egyptian philosopher Philo of Alexandria made no known mention of Jesus.
