Data from the Congressional Research Service shows that the Biden administration is allowing into the U.S. roughly 85% of all unaccompanied minors who are apprehended illegally crossing the U.S./Mexico border. This was a typical rate until President Trump enacted policies that decreased it to 50%. However, President Biden ended these policies, and since then, the number of unaccompanied minors admitted to the U.S. has grown by more than 8 times. Per the Congressional Budget Office, unaccompanied minors who illegally cross the border and are allowed into the U.S. "receive housing, health care, education, and legal services" from the federal government that "will cost about $69,000 in 2024 for each child." House Republicans passed a bill to greatly reduce these entrances, but Senate Democrats shelved it.
