Question of the Day

For as far back in time as objective measures of border security exist, is the U.S./Mexico border currently less secure than it has ever been?

Correct Answer

Tell Me More

The Biden administration is claiming that the border is "secure," but objective measures show that it is currently less secure than it has ever been. One of the most telling of these measures is "Got Aways," which are illegal border crossers who the U.S. Border Patrol detects but does not catch. Gotaways reached a record high of 599,000 in the federal government's 2022 fiscal year. This is 4.7 times the average level from before Biden to as far back as data extends. Another measure is "Apprehensions," which are a rough proxy for total illegal border crossings. These have also reached unprecedented levels under Biden, exceeding 2 million in 2022. Biden's team has let more than a million of these border crossers into the U.S. after they were apprehended. Finally, the number of people who die while trying to cross the border has skyrocketed under Biden. These deaths more than tripled from 247 in the last year of Trump's presidency to 856 deaths in 2022. Charts available at the link below.
