What is the average age of people who have died from Covid-19 in the United States?
Data from death certificates show that the average age of U.S. residents who have died from Covid-19 is about 75 years. In contrast to the media's focus on raw numbers of deaths, a more complete measure of C-19's lethality also includes the years of life lost by each victim. In the words of the CDC, "the allocation of health resources must consider not only the number of deaths by cause but also by age." Hence, the "years of potential life lost" has "become a mainstay in the evaluation of the impact of injuries on public health." In this respect, Covid-19 is much less deadly than common causes of untimely death like accidents and suicides.
