What portion of all childbirths in the U.S. are funded by Medicaid?
The CDC recently reported that Medicaid was the source of payment for 42.1% of all childbirths in 2019. This rate varied from 29.4% for white women to 59.0% for Hispanic women, and 65.1% for black women. Medicaid, which was founded in 1965, is the main government healthcare program for low-income people. The average portion of the U.S. population receiving Medicaid benefits for the entire year increased from 2% in 1966 to 22% in 2016. Federal actuaries estimate this figure will be 23% in 2026.
