This amounts to 39% of U.S. students receiving federally subsidized lunches. In 2019, the school lunch program had an improper payment rate of 9%, and the school breakfast program had an improper payment rate of 10%. These are among the higher improper payment rates of federal programs because they don't always require documentation of parents' income.
