What portion of all U.S. residents have thus far been killed by Covid-19?
According to the CDC's count of "confirmed and probable" Covid-19 fatalities, a total of 67,456 U.S. residents have died from the disease as of May 3, 2020. The U.S. population is 330 million, which means that C-19 has killed about one out of every 5,000 U.S. residents. For comparison, about one out of every 116 U.S. residents die every year. The death rates of the various states currently differ by about 100 times, ranging from a high of 0.11% in New York State to a low of 0.001% in South Dakota, Alaska, Wyoming, and Hawaii. Facts from the science of immunology indicate that these differences may narrow over time.
