After convicted sex offenders are released from state prisons, how many of them are convicted of committing another crime within 9 years?
Per a study published in 2019 by the U.S. Department of Justice, 50% of sex offenders released from state prisons in 2005 were arrested and convicted of committing another crime within 9 years of their release. This figure is lower than the 69% average for all released prisoners. The study also found that "within 9 years of their release from prison ... released sex offenders were more than three times as likely as other released prisoners to be arrested for rape or sexual assault (7.7% versus 2.3%)."
