A 2017 study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that 42.5% of all 18- to 59-year-olds had genital HPV during 2013 to 2014. About half of these people had "high-risk genital HPV," which can cause "cancer in different areas of the body including the cervix and vagina in women, penis in men, and anus and oropharynx [throat] in both men and women."
