According to a recent Department of Agriculture study, in 2011 families, receiving food stamps bought about $1,263 million of meat, poultry & seafood, $1,201 million of sweetened drinks, desserts & candy, and $782 million of vegetables & fruit. These figures are based on data from supermarkets, grocery stores, and combination food and drug stores. However, they do not include warehouse club stores, specialized food stores, and convenience stores.
