Elections Overturned By Fraud

CNN’s Abby Phillip claims that “voter fraud is rare, and it has not been sufficient to overturn the results of federal elections, certainly.”

IN FACT, a 2014 study in the scholarly journal Electoral Studies found that illegal votes cast by non-citizens “likely” overturned a “pivotal” U.S. Senate race that enabled Democrats to pass Obamacare. Here are the specifics:

The study, which was conducted by two professors and a researcher from Old Dominion University, estimated how often non-citizens illegally voted by combining “nationally representative” survey data and “voter databases.” The study found that in the 2008 Presidential and Congressional elections:

  • “roughly one quarter of non-citizens” in the U.S. “were likely registered to vote.”
  • about “6.4% of non-citizens actually voted.”
  • 81.8% of non-citizens who said “I definitely voted” also “reported voting for Barack Obama.”
  • illegal votes cast by non-citizens “likely” changed “important election outcomes” in favor of Democrats, “including Electoral College votes.”
  • the “most important” of these overturned outcomes was “undoubtedly the Minnesota 2008 Senate contest,” which was “decided by 312 votes for Democrat Al Franken.”
  • Franken’s victory “gave Democrats the filibuster-proof super-majority needed to pass major legislative initiatives,” like the “Affordable Care Act.”
  • “participation by more than 0.65% of non-citizens in MN is sufficient to account for the entirety of Franken’s margin,” and “our best guess is that nearly ten times as many voted.”

The results of this study have been corroborated by other studies and scientific surveys that found similar rates of illegal non-citizen voter registration in 2012, 2013, and 2022.

Attempts to refute these studies by NPR, the BBC, the New York Times, PolitiFact, Snopes, the Cato Institute, and others failed to produce a single legitimate objection and resorted to using arguments that suffer from 10 fatal flaws.
