Mideast War Crimes
U.S. Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D–MI) claims that the “government of Israel is addicted to bombing hospitals, schools, refugee camps which are all war crimes.”
IN FACT, Tlaib is projecting the war crimes of her fellow Palestinians onto Israel. In 2023, she blamed Israel for a deadly explosion at a hospital in Gaza when all of the evidence pointed to a Palestinian rocket misfire. In the lead-up to this conflict and during the course of it:
- Palestinians elected and supported Hamas, whose charter called for “killing the Jews,” which Hamas carried out in en masse.
- Israel responded while warning civilians to get out of harm’s way.
- Hamas used civilians for human shields and exploited hospitals, mosques, and schools to launch missiles, hold hostages, and hide terrorists.
- Hamas’ actions violated the U.S. Law of War Manual because they endangered the lives of civilians.
- Israel’s actions accorded with the U.S. Law of War Manual, which requires combatants to “reduce the risk of harm” to civilians “only to the extent feasible or consistent with military necessity.”
