Fixing Illegal Immigration

U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D–CT) claims that President Trump “never wanted to solve” the “problem” of illegal immigration because he “killed” Murphy’s “bipartisan immigration reform proposal.”

IN FACT, Murphy’s proposal would have codified Joe Biden’s open border policies by enacting the following provisions that Murphy stated while pitching the bill to his base:

  • “The border never closes.”
  • Asylum claims are “processed in a non-detained, non-adversarial way.”
  • “Most asylum seekers can work immediately.”
  • “All immigrants” receive a “brand new right to legal representation.”
  • Presidential authority to shut down the border “can only be used for a limited number of days per year” and “sunsets in 3 years.”
  • “The ports must process a minimum of 1400 claims a day.”
  • “Emergency cases that show up in between the ports still need to be accepted.”

Thus, only one Republican ultimately voted for Murphy’s bill, and it failed to pass.

Moreover, the flood of illegal border crossers quickly ended when Trump became president and began strictly enforcing immigration laws — all without Murphy’s proposal.
