Deporting U.S. Citizens
Democrat House Leader Hakeem Jeffries claims that we are “living” in a “country” “where ICE and DHS have free rein to detain and deport American citizens.”
IN FACT, ICE and DHS cannot legally deport U.S. citizens, and recent allegations that they have done so involve cases in which deported non-citizen parents chose to take their children with them.
ICE sometimes briefly detains U.S. citizens when they interfere with law enforcement or when ICE can’t determine if they are actually citizens, a task made difficult by rampant identity fraud among illegal immigrants.
As with all types of law enforcement, ICE officers sometimes make mistakes, including potentially hundreds during the Obama administration.
