Shutdown Blame
U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D–CT) claims that “Donald Trump and his Republican enablers caused the shutdown.”
IN FACT, House Republicans passed a bill before the shutdown to keep the government open by funding it at current levels while the parties negotiated, but Senate Democrats filibustered it.
Then in exchange for opening the government for just 1 month, Democrats demanded $1.5 trillion in added spending over the next 10 years and multiples more thereafter.
Murphy’s allegation is a quintessential example of projection, a nefarious propaganda technique.
