Shutdown Responsibility
U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D–NJ) claims that Republicans “have chosen to shut the government down.”
IN FACT, House Republicans passed a bill to keep the government open at current funding levels for two months so that the parties have time to negotiate, but Senate Democrats effectively filibustered it. Democrats then voted for a competing bill that would open the government for merely one month in exchange for $1.5 trillion in added spending over the next 10 years and multiples of that thereafter.
