Chicago Murders
Illinois governor JB Pritzker claims that Chicago’s “murder rate has been cut in half” because “we’ve been doing the things that are necessary to bring crime down.”
IN FACT, the Chicago murder rate in 2024 was about the same as when Pritzker entered office in 2019. Pritzker is cherry-picking a baseline associated with a surge of murders that occurred during an eruption of the BLM movement. If the Chicago murder rate remains at the same level as in 2024, one in every 75 people in Chicago will ultimately have their lives cut short by murder.
