NY Attorney General Letitia James claims that her “investigation” of Donald Trump was “based on the facts and evidence — not politics.”

IN FACT, James campaigned for attorney general by promising to sue Trump, prosecute him, and remove him from office. She also leveled a false charge against Trump and pressed a court to excessively fine him, which was overturned for violating the Constitution. Here are the receipts:

  • On the campaign trail, James said of Trump, “We’re going to definitely sue him. We’re going to be a real pain in the ass. He’s going to know my name personally.”
  • In a campaign ad, James said, “I’m running for attorney general because I will never be afraid to challenge this illegitimate president” while alleging that Trump “should be charged with obstructing justice” and “indicted for criminal offenses.”
  • In the same ad, James promised that she will “join with law enforcement and other attorneys general across this nation in removing this president from office” while declaring that “the days of Donald Trump are coming to an end.”
  • During a Democrat primary debate, James said, “What is fueling my soul right now is Trump and his abuses, abuses against immigrants, against women, against our environment.”
  • With disregard for the widely known fact that local property tax assessments of certain properties are a tiny fraction of their market value, James charged Trump with fraudulently inflating the value of Mar-a-Lago because he valued it at “$347 million to $739 million” while “the property was assessed by Palm Beach County as having a market value” of “$18 million to $27.6 million.”
  • James sued Trump for fraud while asking the court to fine him “at least” $250,000, and Democrat Judge Arthur Engoron obliged, but a New York State appeals court rescinded the entire penalty for being “an excessive fine that violates the Eighth Amendment of the United States Constitution.”
  • An Associated Press analysis of James’ case against Trump found it was the only known case in New York history in which a “big business” was “threatened with a shutdown” despite no “obvious victims” or “major losses.”
  • Soros-funded Democrat prosecutor Alvin Bragg, one of James’ associates, campaigned for office while declaring that the “most important” thing he could do was hold Donald Trump “accountable” for “lawlessness” and then prosecuted him for a specific crime never before charged in the history of the nation.
