CO2 & Carbon
U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I–VT) claims that President Trump “sold out the young people of America” by giving the “fossil fuel industry the unrestricted ability to release carbon emissions.”
IN FACT, Trump is planning to stop the EPA from regulating greenhouse gases like CO2, which is not “carbon” — just as H2O is not “hydrogen.” There are 10 million different carbon compounds, and calling CO2 “carbon” conflates this colorless, odorless, and relatively nontoxic gas with highly noxious substances like carbon monoxide and black carbon.
