Criticizing Judges
Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson claims that harsh criticisms of judges by President Trump and other Republicans “are attacks on our democracy, on our system of government.”
IN FACT, Jackson never condemned these harsh criticisms of judges by prominent Democrats:
- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (2022): “Several of these conservative Justices, who are in no way accountable to the American people, have lied to the U.S. Senate, ripped up the Constitution and defiled both precedent and the Supreme Court’s reputation.”
- President Joe Biden (2022): “With this decision, the conservative majority of the Supreme Court shows how extreme it is, how far removed they are from the majority of this country.”
- Senate Leader Chuck Schumer (2020): “I want to tell you, Gorsuch, I want to tell you, Kavanaugh, you have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price! You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.”
Moreover, the U.S. is not a democracy but a democratic constitutional republic, and the Constitution guarantees the right to free speech unless it crosses the line to calls for violence.
