U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I–VT) claims that “we must make public colleges tuition free” so that the U.S. can have the “best educated workforce in the world.”

IN FACT, each U.S. household pays an average of $9,397 per year — or $728,000 over a lifetime — to fund government spending on education. Yet, only 37% of adults can answer a simple question requiring basic logic, addition, and division — even when using a calculator.
