SAVE Act

This is the latest In Fact. Click the left arrow for earlier ones.

U.S. Congressman Eric Swalwell (D–CA) claims that the SAVE Act (a bill to require proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote) would “make it impossible” for “married women who changed their name” to vote because “it would require you to have your birth certificate to prove who you are.”

IN FACT, the SAVE Act explicitly permits many forms of ID beyond a birth certificate, such as a U.S. passport, a government-issued photo ID with U.S. birthplace, and more. The bill also requires states to allow for other forms of “documentation” in the “event of a discrepancy.”
