Bernie Sanders claims that “public school teachers should not have to work 2 or 3 jobs just to make ends meet.”

IN FACT, the average immediate cost to taxpayers of compensating each full-time public school teacher is $100,487 per year, and non-school jobs account for only 2.4% of public school teachers’ total salaries. Furthermore, private-sector workers work an average of 37% more hours per year than public school teachers, including all lesson prep, test grading, etc.
