“Tear-Gassing Peaceful Protestors”
President Biden recently told a largely black audience in Philadelphia that Donald Trump “wanted to tear gas you as you peacefully protested George Floyd’s murder.”
IN FACT, all claims that Donald Trump “tear-gassed peaceful protestors” and told governors to “dominate” them are the exact opposite of reality:
1) The DC Police Department — which was under the authority of Mayor Muriel Bowser — teargassed BLM protestors at Lafayette Park without any “control or direction” from the federal government. Bowser then blamed Trump for this at the DNC Convention and boasted that she renamed the area “Black Lives Matter Plaza.”
2) The BLM protestors at Lafayette Square were far from peaceful. Instead, they injured at least 49 Park Police officers while vandalizing both federal and private property.
3) Trump told governors to “get much tougher” on BLM rioters while emphasizing that he is “an ally of all peaceful protesters” and stating that “we cannot allow the righteous cries and peaceful protesters to be drowned out by an angry mob.”
