Nancy Pelosi claims “it’s such a fraud when extreme Republicans say this fight” over the budget “is about spending. These are people who gave a tax cut to the richest people in America.”
IN FACT, federal spending cost each U.S. household an average of $47,015 in 2022. Most “tax cuts” are really “tax evens” that correct for laws which consume an ever-growing share of people’s incomes. Thus, the tax rates paid by the rich have been roughly level for as far back as data extend.
