Democrat House Leader Hakeem Jeffries claims that “Republicans are determined to crush Medicaid” and “don’t give a damn” that “hospitals will close, including in rural America.”
IN FACT, Medicaid pays hospitals an average of 12% below their costs of caring for Medicaid patients, while federal law financially drains most hospitals by requiring them to treat Medicaid recipients, emergency medical conditions, and childbirths regardless of ability to pay or immigration status.
Furthermore, Democrats voted for Obamacare to dramatically cut Medicare hospital payments, and rural hospital closures doubled in the wake of this law.
